Since the beginning of last week, traffic lights have been operational at the Dudelange/Burange roundabout. They were installed in the hope of improving traffic flow through the country’s second-largest roundabout. In addition, the authorities at the National Roads Administration have adapted the road layout.
Initial preparatory work for the installation of the traffic lights had already been carried out in September 2025. From 2 March 2026 onwards, the National Roads Administration then worked on the roundabout for several weeks.
According to information from RTL, however, these measures have not yet brought any real improvement. In the first few days, long traffic jams reportedly formed, at times stretching back to the Route de Luxembourg in Dudelange, and even reaching into Bettembourg, mainly during rush hour.
The new roundabout in Dudelange was inaugurated at the end of April 2021. Construction of the junction near the National Health Laboratory (LNS) took place between May 2016 and April 2021, at a cost of €51 million.
Plans to regulate the roundabout with traffic lights had already been made during the construction phase, with the necessary infrastructure foreseen at the time.
