Spectacular pictures and videos of the Friday storms have been circulating on social media. How does the situation look a few days after in the most severely hit regions?

Saturday morning in Bourglinster was rather idyllic and peaceful. Not much was left to see of the rain and mud waves that hit the town on the previous evening, a problem the region has been plagued with for several years.

More cases of flooded basements occurred in the north of the country. Municipalities Wincrange and Derenbach reported 64 l of rain per square meter, the highest tally of the country that day.

Between 5 pm and 9.30 pm on Friday, sixteen fire fighters from Wincrange were in action to help get a hold of the situation. Storms of this magnitude are recorded on average at least once a year, brigade leader Paul Thines explained. The local school, pharmacy, and municipal building were all affected by flooding.
