In a letter issued on Monday, teachers’ union SNE stressed that without concrete action from the Ministry of Education to improve support for children with specific needs, the difficult situation for teachers will not improve.

The statement comes in response to recent reports by the National Observatory for Children, Youth and School Quality, which highlight the high levels of stress among educators.

However, the SNE argues that the Observatory’s proposed solutions do not go far enough. Instead of addressing structural issues, they place the burden on teachers, failing to question the education system as a whole. The union also criticised the complete omission of special-needs care in the report, calling it a “slap in the face” to teachers and further proof of how disconnected the Observatory is from the realities of the classroom.
