The incident occurred at approximately 10.10am on Tuesday morning near Strassen, when a lorry suffered a tyre burst and struck the safety barrier. The impact broke through the barrier, causing the vehicle to overturn. On the opposite side of the motorway, a car was struck by debris from the shattered concrete barrier.

According to a statement from the National Roads Authority at the scene, the bridge under which the lorry came to rest must now be inspected for structural damage.

One person was injured in the accident, according to the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS). Information from the scene indicates that the lorry driver had to be cut free from his cab. Police confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the driver was injured and taken to hospital after receiving first aid at the scene.

The accident caused significant traffic disruption, with long tailbacks forming on the motorway and alternative routes. Shortly after 11am, traffic jams stretched 6 kilometres towards Arlon and 3 kilometres towards Gasperich.

Emergency services responding to the incident included the fire brigades from Mamer and Luxembourg City, an ambulance from Luxembourg City, and the Emergency Medical Assistance Team (SAMU) from Esch-sur-Alzette.
