Between Sunday evening and Monday afternoon, unknown individuals damaged a tent belonging to the organisers of the annual Buergbrennen event in Nospelt, causing an estimated €2,000 to €3,000 worth of damage.
The Buergbrennen took place on Saturday evening in Nospelt, organised as every year by the “Nouspeleter Buergbrenner” non-profit. Following a successful event, members spent Sunday clearing away equipment. According to a brief telephone conversation with RTL, the clearing process went according to plan, with almost all equipment being stowed away.
However, members had to wait for the tent’s tarpaulin to dry before it could be packed away. For this reason, they decided to leave it in place for one additional day, intending to retrieve it at 5pm on Monday. When a member visited the site at midday on Monday to check on the drying progress, they discovered the tent had been damaged in multiple spots with a knife.
Between 5pm on Sunday evening and 12pm on Monday, unknown individuals had cut into 13 of the tent’s 20 tarpaulin pieces. While the exact financial damage has yet to be determined, the non-profit estimates it will range between €2,000 and €3,000. The association has stated that it has already requested a quote for repair or replacement of the tarpaulin.
The non-profit believes the culprits’ motive was purely destructive, as the tent was completely empty at the time of the incident and contained nothing of value to steal. Members note that some cuts appeared to have been made from the inside. As the tent had been left open, it was easily accessible to anyone.
In the aftermath of the incident, the non-profit has filed a complaint with police against unknown individuals. Potential witnesses are invited to come forward directly through the association’s Facebook page.
