Infection without symptomsSick certificate not an obligation for positive Covid cases

RTL Today
A person who tests positive for Covid-19 should isolate immediately and ideally would receive a sick certificate - however, this is not always a given.

As infections rise, the number of staff off work across the country is climbing, causing complications as seen in the education sector. However, a positive Covid test does not always signify illness. Infections caused by the Omicron variant in particular are said to be milder than other variants, with many people testing positive despite being asymptomatic.

If a person tests positive for coronavirus, they should isolate and stay at home to avoid spreading the infection to others. However, if they are well enough, they are permitted to work from home where feasible, even if a sick certificate has been issued. In such cases the employee should inform their employer and the National Health Fund if they wish to drop the certificate, according to the Ministry of Social Security.

On the other hand, employers are not permitted to force staff to work if they are infected.

It is important to note that even if an employee chooses to work despite a sick certificate for Covid, they should still respect the isolation rules. This therefore only applies to tasks which can be carried out from the home office, and only if the employee is in agreement, adds the Ministry.
