Now that mandatory Covid checks will become reality in the workplace, Aleba is arguing for “social peace” and wants employers to foot the bill for tests.

In a statement on Tuesday, they also supported remote work as an alternative to the CovidCheck, which will become mandatory in mid-January.

For people who need to be on site, Aleba recommends that the employer pay for tests, “to avoid discrimination, guarantee social peace and ensure equal treatment of all employees.

The president of the OGBL, Nora Beck, expressed regret that no agreement had been found on who would pay for tests, which means it would fall to employees. This would be a “major cost” for them. The OGBL suggests the tests should at least be free for people who make less than 2.5 times minimum wage.

The tests will have to be done “outside working hours”, said Michel Reckinger, president of the Business Union. Based on their shorter validity period, they would have to be done at least three times a week.
