Climate pactSecond climate pact to ensure improving collaboration between municipalities and citizens

RTL Today
The government's first climate pact will last until 2020, whereas its second improved pact will be put into place up until 2030.

To date, 92 municipalities in Luxembourg have been certified by the climate pact. As Minister for the Environment Carole Dieschbourg explained on Tuesday, the second edition of the pact will call for a more quantitative approach in order to create a better work framework for municipalities. The minister presented the second edition of the pact in Esch-sur-Alzette alongside Minister for Energy Claude Turmes and maintained that, amongst other things, it will ensure that municipalities and citizens collaborate in a better fashion.

The first edition of the pact will last until 2020. As we reach the middle of the year 2019, the two Green ministers presented the priorities of the next pact. Mainly, the government hopes to reduce greenhouse gases by 50 to 55% by 2030, and raise energy efficiency by 40 to 44% as well as renewable energies by 23 to 25% by that same date. The authorities will recruit more experts and tools to help municipalities contribute towards these goals.
