Facebook users received the opportunity to ask questions regarding the booster vaccine. In particular, people wished to know which citizens would be eligible for a third jab against coronavirus.

Dr Jean-Claude Schmit said he expected booster vaccine invites to decline by age, similar to the first vaccination invitations. He appealed to the over-65s to book appointments for their boosters upon receipt of the invite.

Dr Schmit added that there would be no need to determine antibodies for the virus before receiving the third dose. The decision on eligibility for the booster depends on other factors, such as age.

A very limited number of patients undergoing a transplant could be considered for a potential fourth dose, according to Dr Schmit; however, this would affect a very small number of people.

According to the latest updates, the Novavax vaccine, whose creators requested a permit on Wednesday, will be delivered to Luxembourg in early 2022.

Dr Schmit urged the unvaccinated not to wait for the Novavax jab, saying it was not a magic heal-all solution. The fourth wave of the pandemic was underway and it was important for people to protect themselves now, he added.

Although infections in the Grand Duchy are on the rise, it is currently faring better than other countries such as Germany, Austria and Denmark in terms of hospitalisations, concluded the advisers.
