This 14th edition was record-breaking in terms of visitor numbers. More than 31,000 visitors got a closer look at the work of 38 firms based in 52 different areas. Firms showed their prowess under the slogan ‘Dat ka Lëtzebuerg’ (‘This is what Luxembourg can do’).
For instance, produce enthusiasts were able to learn about importing and distributing food in Ellange on Saturday, learning that Luxembourg will be able to grow Dutch bananas in greenhouses soon. The importer Grosbusch has been handed down to its eleventh generation, representing a truly Luxembourgish business. Their open day had workshops for both children and adults, teaching them things they might not have known about produce.
The most popular sites over the weekend included the CFL’s central workshop in the capital, the Moulins de Kleinbettingen mill in Kleinbettingen, caterer Kaempff-Kohler in Niederanven, the SICA Recycling centre in Kehlen, metal fabricator Ceratizit, and, of course, the fruit and vegetable importer Grosbusch in Ellange.
The purpose of the Open Days is not only an educational experience for visitors, but also allows employees at these firms to present their expertise and know-how. Businesses involved in the initiative are all proud to present their products and their hard work. Finally, the initiative provides an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in a specific type of work to informally chat with prospective coworkers and bosses.
