
What is promised must be paid: after announcing that the price of of fuel would increase, the government has followed through.
This Wednesday 1 May, the excise duty on fuel will increase.
One litre of petrol will be sold at a cent more, diesel at two cents more. This will amount to €1 for a full diesel tank (50 litres) and €0,50 for petrol.
The Chamber of Deputies recently voted in favour of the proposal in order to help the Grand Duchy recover tax revenues while simultaneously discouraging car usage.
Half of the increase revenue generated will go to the Climate Fund, the other half will be transferred to the state budget.
Nevertheless, Luxembourg service station tariffs remain much lower than those of the neighbouring countries: about €1,48 and €1,55 for diesel and the SP-95 respectively in France, about €1,38 and €1,41 in Belgium and €1,25 and €1,40 in Germany.
