The Luxembourg police are once again taking part in the pan-European “Speed” road safety campaign, scheduled from 13 to 19 April 2026.
Organised by the European Roads Policing Network (Roadpol), the initiative aims to highlight one of the major issues in road safety: excessive speed, which remains the leading cause of death on European roads and a determining factor in the severity of accidents. Throughout the week, patrols will step up their checks, with a particular focus on compliance with speed limits.
As part of this effort, Luxembourg will also participate in the 2026 “Speedmarathon” on Wednesday, 15 April. For 24 hours, from midnight to midnight, police teams will increase speed checks across the entire country, particularly during peak hours. The operation, carried out simultaneously in many European states under Roadpol’s coordination, is part of a large-scale prevention approach.
The objective of the Speedmarathon is to raise awareness among drivers of the risks associated with speeding and to reduce the number of accidents. To reach a wide audience, the Luxembourg police will provide sustained coverage of the operation on their social media networks, particularly on Instagram via the @policelux account and the #speedmarathon hashtag. Internet users will find information there on ongoing checks, prevention messages, and photo reports.
