Psychiatrist Jean-Marc Cloos and Dr Alix Schmit filed the defamation lawsuit after Freitag compared one of their articles to Nazi practices and accused them of being “disciples of Dr Mengele”.
In court, Freitag proclaimed his innocence and conveyed his belief that he will be acquitted. The accusations are subject to interpretation, he stated. Freitag was also happy upon hearing that the trial date has been set to 19 April, claiming that it will be like a birthday present for him.
A group of 30 people gathered outside of the court on Monday morning. However, nobody wanted to comment on the issue. Police were also present at the scene.
There will be another trial on the same day as the one of Mr Freitag. Virologist Dr Claude Muller from the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) stands accused of inciting hate through statements he made in several newspapers. The lawsuit in question was filed by an Expressis Verbis contributor.
