Following Luc Frieden's State of the Nation address on Tuesday, Luxembourg parliament debated the prime minister's announcements on Wednesday, with both morning and afternoon sessions. The sessions were live streamed with English translation.
During the morning portion of the debate, Luxembourg’s opposition parties sharply criticised Prime Minister Luc Frieden’s State of the Nation address, arguing it failed to reflect the everyday struggles of citizens facing rising living costs, housing pressures, and economic uncertainty.
While coalition parties CSV and DP defended the government’s record and highlighted measures already introduced, opposition figures accused Frieden of lacking ambition and long-term vision.
LSAP leader Taina Bofferding called for structural reforms to tackle inequality and the housing crisis, including stronger taxation on property speculation and fairer rent controls. ADR’s Fred Keup criticised the government for ignoring concerns linked to population growth, integration, and the role of the Luxembourgish language, while the Greens’ Sam Tanson warned about rising unemployment, particularly among young people, and argued the government was failing to provide adequate answers on education, jobs, and social challenges.
