Five police officers from the former Luxembourg-Gare C3R station are accused of misconduct in the course of their duties. Two of them will stand trial from Tuesday afternoon on charges including intentional bodily harm and abuse of authority, while three others are accused of obstructing justice in connection with the cases.

The incidents date back to two separate events in 2023. On 18 May, two officers allegedly assaulted a man in a holding cell at the Luxembourg-Gare station, breaking one of his ribs.

Two days later, on the night of the ING Night Marathon, an intoxicated man was brought to a sobering-up cell at the station, where he too is alleged to have been beaten by officers. Allegations of police violence are central to the case.

It is further alleged that attempts were made to cover up these acts. Three additional officers are accused of falsifying information in a report, with charges including obstruction of justice and forgery.

The trial had originally been due to begin on 17 December last year, but it quickly became clear that the case could not be dealt with in the three scheduled hearings. The defence had requested at short notice that additional witnesses be heard, bringing the total to 18.

The C3R Luxembourg-Gare police station has since been dissolved, having been disbanded in November 2023.
