The Emaischen in Nospelt is traditionally held on Easter Monday, a custom that dates back to 1957, when a procession of craftsmen wound its way through the streets of Nospelt. A few years later, the Péckvillchen, the small clay bird whistle synonymous with the festival, was born.
Usch has been part of it all since 1987. Now approaching 85, the Nospelt local continues to craft his birds by hand from clay, keeping alive a tradition that draws between 5,000 and 8,000 visitors to the village each year. The festivities got under way at 10am on Easter Monday.
