The restaurant has been closed for a year after the owner was forced to take down the outside terrace following a legal dispute with the state. In a parliamentary question, CSV MP Françoise Hetto-Gaasch and Marc Lies inquired about the degraded status of the site and its potential to return to its former reputation as an 'isle of rest and good food'.
The Public Buildings Administration (ABP) has proceeded to the stage of repairing the roof and securing the site by installing fences, Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna and Minister for Mobility and Public Works Francois Bausch revealed.
The ministers further detailed that a major renovation is considered necessary for the building to be restored to its prior state, regardless of its future purpose. The 'Waldhaff' site finds itself in a Natura 2000 zone, meaning that its future purpose must align with legislation protecting the area.
Due to the administrative processes still awaiting treatment and continuing renovation works, the ministers believe the earliest a future establishment could open its doors would be in summer 2021.
