Said emails claim that police have opened an investigation for sexual crimes against the recipient, which is then used to pressure people into handing over money.
Although the emails appear to be signed by the police general director, Philippe Schrantz, the address used in the message reveals that it is not an official one used by the Grand Ducal Police.
Attached to the emails is a PDF file, which says that the recipient is being investigated for looking at child pornography online and telling them that they should contact the police within 72 hours. If not, it is implied that the information in question will be made public.
The Grand Ducal Police have therefore issued a new warning, reminding people that they would never contact a person under investigation via email or threaten to release sensitive information.
