Philippart's knowledge of the city's historical buildings is unparalleled. On Sunday, the guided walks resumed with the themes of Art Deco, Modernism and Jugendstil.
The first tour of 2020 began at the Place d'Armes, where all three architectural styles from the 19th and 20th centuries are well represented.
At the time, Jugendstil represented a contrast to contemporary traditional, classic architecture. New building materials were made available through industrialisation. Luxembourg City's Grand Rue became a sort of showroom for the steel magnates, which catapulted the Grand Duchy to an innovative position in Jugendstil.

The buildings included on the guided tour are restricted to those designed by Luxembourgish architects only. At the time, most architects studied abroad and brought influences and modern thinking from Germany, France and Belgium back to the Grand Duchy.
2019 was a record year for Philippart in terms of the number of participants on his guided walks. The next guided architectural tour is on 9 February at the Villa Louvigny.
The tours take place once a month and are free to join. Further information can be found on the website
