130 years of industrial history make up the current site between Esch-sur-Alzette and Schifflange. Over the next 20 years, a brand new district will be created in the area.
The majority of the site is part of Esch-sur-Alzette, while the rest is situated in Schifflange. Last autumn, a Copenhagen-based architecture firm won a contest to design the new development.
The Esch/Schifflange site will become a bridge between the industrial history in the area and the future. It will be called the "Quartier Alzette" and will consist of houses and apartments, of which at least 30 percent will be considered moderately priced.
