The new refugee home in Esch is located on the crossing of Neudorf and Burgronn is already mostly complete. There are just some details that need ironing out.

The Luxembourg Reception and Integration Agency (OLAI) estimates that first residents could move into the 75 double rooms by mid-August. The Neudorf neighbourhood will then gain 150 new residents.

The topic is fuel for many discussions, said the Mayor of Esch Georges Mischo. In particular, the location of the new home was a key part of the debate. There are always people who are unhappy with the decisions made, the Mayor thinks that this one is the right fit.

The government regularly asks communes for help and to take on responsibility in the context of the refugee crisis. In doing so, one has to be careful that refugees and other residents receive equal treatment, in order to avoid tensions, specified Georges Mischo.

In Bridel, there were a number of initial discussions between the political authorities and the citizens regarding the format of the new facilities. Finally, the original plan went ahead: no little houses, but a large building with outdoor wooden panelling. The home has 14 three person bedrooms to offer, so there is space for 42 people.
