In this way, the hospital centre hopes to bring specialised treatments closer to patients. Orthopaedists, and doctors specialising in areas such as geriatric or gynaecological care, are to visit the centres one week a month in Mersch and Grevenmacher.
Despite having a number of patients lined up, the Grevenmacher premises have not yet opened their own building and have temporarily started their practice in a lab.
Angiologist Katja Lottermoser is one of the specialists who will be treating patients along the Moselle in the months to come. As a doctor studying diseases of the circulatory system and of the lymphatic system, i.e. arteries, veins and lymphatic vessels, her work encompasses the care of a range of patients, from diabetics to individuals suffering heart or kidney problems.
CHL's medical director assured that GPs in the area were consulted at length in order to decide what specialists would satisfy demand without causing unnecessary competition.
Patients can also undergo minor procedures in these practices, such as the treatment of varicose veins, but anything more intrusive or serious will require a visit to the main hospital. Since consultations are only one week a month, no admin office has yet been set up: patients can set up appointments either online or over the phone.
So far the first experiences have been positive on both sides, with the practices benefiting from a good level of visitors and patients happy to have a new medical building closer to home.
The first report will be drawn up after 6 months to determine whether the demand will require additional consultation time. In time there is a chance that more centres will open in the north and west corners of the country.
While the new building currently under construction in Potaschberg is not directly linked to the hospital group, Hopitaux Robert Schuman are also planning to extend services outside of their establishments. The
structure will however house x-ray, ultrasound and MRI machines that will be run by staff belonging to the hospital.
