The motion of no confidence was officially adopted on Thursday morning in Goesdorf. This could mean a reshuffle at the head of the Oesling municipality.

Currently, Christa Schmitz serves as Goesdorf's mayor, alongside aldermen Marc Siebenaler and Claude Gilson. Gilson aligned himself with the Thursday morning motion, which had been requested by four other members of the municipal council, including the former mayor Norbert Maes.

Maes did not perform very well in the last municipal elections, and the group of council members had already refused to pass the municipality's budget in December.

As Schmitz explained after the predicted results of the vote, the next step is to inform the Ministry of Home Affairs. Jean-Paul Mathay, who received the most votes after the mayor and alderman, could take over as mayor. During the motion, Mathay explained that he had filed the motion because the municipality needed some stability.

According to Mathay, the municipal authorities had not been working properly over the last few months and there had been a lack of transparency on the part of the aldermen and mayor.

Around 30 local citizens were present to listen to the discussion, a majority of them supporting the mayor, Christa Schmitz.

In the last municipal elections, Schmitz came in first with 511 votes, followed by the two current aldermen Siebenaler with 464 and Gilson with 415. Next came Mathay with 298 votes, Marc Keilen with 291 votes, Christian Flora with 236 votes, and finally, the leaving mayor, Norbert Maes with 233 votes.
