Paulette Lenert has been officially appointed as Commissioner for the Luxembourg pavilion at the World Expo 2030 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel has also reinstated Lenert as a civil servant within the Ministry of Foreign Trade, government sources confirmed to RTL.
Lenert, a former minister and the lead candidate for the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) in the last legislative elections, had already signalled her interest in the role about a month ago during an interview with RTL Radio. Early last week, Bettel stated that he would put her name forward for the position.
The World Expo in Riyadh is scheduled to run from 1 October 2030 to 31 March 2031. It will be the second World Expo to be held in an Arab country, following the 2020 edition in the United Arab Emirates. Organisers are expecting more than 40 million visitors.
