Severe thunderstorms swept across Luxembourg on Friday evening, resulting in substantial localised damage. The emergency call centre (112) was inundated with calls, with most incidents reported in and around Luxembourg City, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) stated in a summary released on Saturday morning.

In total, emergency services carried out 21 interventions linked to the adverse weather. Firefighters were called on three occasions to assist residents whose cellars had been flooded by the intense rainfall.

Crews were also dispatched to secure damaged roofs at three separate locations.

The storm caused considerable disruption on the roads, with firefighters responding to fourteen incidents involving trees or branches that had fallen onto the carriageway. In another case, responders were called to secure an unspecified object, according to the CGDIS report.

Lightning struck near Reckange at around 8.30pm, igniting a vegetation fire. Firefighters from Boevange-sur-Attert, Mersch, and Tuntange were mobilised to bring the blaze under control.
