In a world of work where the needs of people have changed, vocational training must be adapted accordingly. Minister of Education Claude Meisch presented three new programmes on Tuesday at the YEP School Fair.

First, the DAP Life Assistant programme, which deals with the accompanying, guiding and assisting dependent people of all ages, was revised. This school year, a programme dealing with the detention of children and young people was created - since September, almost 500 students from 15 schools have enrolled in this training.

Another programme on inclusion should also be added in the next school year, said Meisch: “Children and adults with special needs require staff with extra qualifications. This was important to us. They can later work in schools, in inclusion or in non-formal education, but of course they can also work in structures of disabled people and especially with older people who have dementia”

Meanwhile, for the new school year, the current formation d’aide socio-familiale should be replaced by the CCP Assistant d’accompagnement au quotidien (Daily Support Assistant). This should last for two years and focuses on accompanying different groups of people, such as senior citizens in their everyday life.

40 secondary schools, 170 advanced trainings, as well as several services offered by the Ministry of Education are presented at the ‘Youth, Education, and Professions’ convention, also known as the ‘YEP School Convention’, until Wednesday.

The event aims to help pupils from primary schools decide which path to follow and which educational institution to choose.
