An increasing number of people are being mentioned in the Epstein affair, as their names appear in the large volume of judicial documents recently released by the US Department of Justice. PM Luc Frieden is named in two documents published on 30 January 2026.
More specifically, his name appears in two emails exchanged in 2014 between Jeffrey Epstein and Ariane de Rothschild, who was at the time CEO of the private bank Edmond de Rothschild.
In an email dated 26 February 2014, the banker tells Jeffrey Epstein that she is travelling to Luxembourg for a lunch meeting with then Finance Minister Luc Frieden and asks for his opinion of him.
In another exchange between the two, dated 17 and 18 June 2014, Ariane de Rothschild writes that she had met Frieden the day before (on 17 June) and that he had indicated an interest in joining the board of the private bank, although he still needed to negotiate with Deutsche Bank.
Contacted by RTL, the Ministry of State said that Frieden has never known, met, or spoken to Jeffrey Epstein.
