
The fire began in a warehouse in Schwebsange shortly before 8pm. Some 50 fire fighters were deployed to fight the flames, but could not prevent the amount of material damage caused. The warehouse was used to store boats and caravans.
The N10 in Schwebsange was still closed to traffic on Friday morning as a result of the fire.
A total of seven fire brigades were involved in the operation, hailing from Schengen, Remich, Mondorf-les-Bains, Dalheim, Canach, Dudelange and Junglinster. Ambulances from Remich and Bettembourg also assisted with the incident. The reason for the fire is not yet known.
At this stage, police are unable to exclude arson as a cause. For a period of time after the incident, the police dispatched a helicopter to search for potential burglars. Anybody who may have seen anything suspicious in relation to the fire should contact the Remich police station at 24 47 71 000.
The CGDIS also reported a bin on fire on rue Mère Franziska in the capital at 8.50pm, as well as a burning car on rue de la Libératioun at 1.35am on Friday.
