A verdict was delivered on Thursday afternoon at the Luxembourg City court in the case concerning the tragic death of Emran, the boy who was fatally struck by an ice sculpture at the Luxembourg City Christmas market in 2019.

The main sculptor responsible for the installation was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended in full, and fined €5,000. His colleague received a nine-month suspended prison sentence and a €1,500 fine.

All other defendants, including employees of Luxembourg City, staff from the Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO), as well as the LCTO itself, were acquitted of charges of involuntary manslaughter.

The court awarded a total of just over €250,000 in damages and compensation to the victim’s family, including the parents, brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, significantly less than the approximately €700,000 in damages originally sought by the lawyers representing the civil parties.
