Immigration policiesLuxembourg Reception and Integration Agency to become National Reception Agency

RTL Today
Reception and integration are both crucial aspects of immigration policy, but differ greatly.

As a result, the changes in the institutions welcoming refugees and asylum seekers emphasise this distinction. The Luxembourg Reception and Integration Agency (OLAI) is due to make way for its successor, the National Reception Agency (ONA). The change means that the agency will no longer fall under the remit of the Ministry for Family Affairs and Integration, as headed by Corinne Cahen. Instead, the agency will be in the Ministry of Immigration's jurisdiction, which is led by Jean Asselborn.

The change should facilitate processes for asylum seekers, who will receive all the information they need from one ministry. Consequently, asylum seekers will know who to address any queries to or where to seek information.

Nevertheless, as Cahen explained to the parliamentary commission on family and integration, integration could soon play a significant role again. The state council has also discussed the matter, contemplating whether the bureaucratic separation reception and integration will have the desired results.
