The fund reported a number of projects in line with developing the Kirchberg area and notably hoping to make it possible for residents to use their cars as seldom as possible.
The area was long known as only being populated by offices, which was then followed by the introduction of commercial spaces and cultural activities. Housing in Kirchberg has only been a recent phenomenon. At present, there are 1,600 homes for around 5,800 residents.
Gillen announced that the fund is implementing a number of construction projects dedicated at creating homes, and some of these are currently already in the process. He cited one project aimed at building 250 homes along Boulevard J.F. Kennedy near the Philharmonie and the future ArcelorMittal headquarters.
The fund is also working on projects involving two new neighbourhoods in an area towards the north of Kirchberg, where 5,500 homes will be built. The main purpose of these construction projects is to provide residents with homes closer to their workplace, thus incentivising them to not use their cars to commute. The fund is also emphasising affordable housing and ecological projects.
