Roughly 12,000 people are employed by EU agencies in Luxembourg. Christoph Schröder from the liaison office of the European Parliament in Luxembourg has now said that it is becoming increasingly challenging to recruit new employees.
One of the reasons contributing to this are the high wages in the civil service, as the EU institutions are struggling to compete with the civil service when it comes to hiring Luxembourgish employees.
The building which housed the European Parliament in the 1960s has since changed its look and its purpose. Nowadays, it is still home to the EU's General Administration.
By 2023, a new building is supposed to regroup all of the employees of the General Administration and will contain a visitor centre to make the EU more attractive to the general public, as well as visiting tourists.
