Four cars were broken into in Pfaffenthal on Monday, adding to what local residents describe as a recent uptick in such incidents in the Luxembourg City neighbourhood. RTL spoke with one resident about the situation.

Shards of glass still litter the ground. One vehicle was broken into on Montée de Pfaffenthal on Monday, and three others on Rue Sosthène Weis. Local residents believe the same individual is responsible. “It happened at the same time, which is why we are almost certain that it is the same person,” a witness explained, adding “What’s more, the damage and the motive were identical each time. The front window was smashed, and the perpetrator looked for cash or valuables.”

Another vehicle was broken into last weekend on a neighbouring street. According to the witness, both Luxembourg-registered cars and those with foreign number plates have been targeted.

Residents have also noticed a pattern regarding the types of vehicles affected. “We have observed that mostly less premium cars, which often do not have an alarm system, are targeted,” the witness said, noting that the absence of an alarm makes theft easier. At this stage, locals have not noticed any break-ins involving more expensive cars, according to the witness.

The witness filed a complaint with the police, who offered advice on how to avoid such incidents. “The first piece of advice is to park your car in a garage, but that isn’t always possible. The second is to empty the vehicle and not leave any visible belongings inside, such as blankets or bags. All of these items can make a car attractive to thieves,” the witness said.

When questioned by RTL, police confirmed in writing that four cars were broken into in Pfaffenthal on Monday. More broadly, one to two vehicle break-ins per week have been recorded in the neighbourhood over the past few weeks. Police said ongoing investigations are underway.

The police also refer the public to their website, where further advice on preventing such offences is available.
