With family gatherings under way, caution is advised. The flu is once again circulating widely in Luxembourg and the Grand Est region.
In the Grand Duchy, the Ministry of Health is recording a steady increase in reported cases, noting that infections are “very frequent among children and adolescents”.
Almost 600 cases were detected between 8 and 14 December, a rise of 57% in just one week. The dominant strain is influenza A, indicating that the seasonal flu is now “fully under way”.
The ministry recommends vaccination for people aged over 65 to prevent potential complications in the event of infection, and urges the continued use of simple preventive measures such as regular handwashing, using tissues, and wearing a mask if symptoms appear.
In France’s Grand Est region, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) is also reporting a sharp increase in flu cases. Nearly 600 patients attended emergency departments with flu-like symptoms between 8 and 14 December, and the peak of infections has not yet been reached.
