The first meeting of Luxembourg's Tripartite talks took place at Senningen Castle on Tuesday, bringing together the government, trade unions and employers' representatives.

Following a presentation by Statec, the social partners outlined their views on the current economic situation. The government then tabled a series of proposals aimed at addressing the challenges facing the country, Prime Minister Luc Frieden said in a statement after the meeting.

Among the topics discussed were measures to curb energy prices and preserve purchasing power. According to Frieden, these could potentially include tax measures. The government also proposed stepping up decarbonisation efforts through additional support for renovations and new construction projects.

Participants also considered ways to support the agricultural sector, which has been hit hard by sharp increases in fertiliser prices.

Frieden said all parties were keen to make progress as quickly as possible. In their initial reactions, both trade unions and employer representatives expressed satisfaction with the discussions, describing them as constructive.
