Hate speechFacebook user sentenced to six months in prison and €1,500 for racist comments

A woman facing a trial concerning incitement to hatred and hate speech online received a stricter sentence than initially expected, as she did not show for her trial.

Last year, the woman commented on a video on Facebook, saying that they should put the person featured in the video "against a wall and shoot them." She then went on to hurl insults at non-Luxembourgers.

The court fined the woman €1,500, finding her guilty of hate speech and incitement to hatred. As she had not come to her trial, she received a six-month prison sentence on top of the fine.
