On Monday, Education Minister Claude Meisch presented the main points of the planned reform of the childcare voucher system (Chèque-Service Accueil), which aims to make invoicing more transparent and ensure a place in care for every child by 2030. The total cost of the reform is estimated at €300 million.

The reform includes several key measures:

  • Standardisation of pricing rules across all day care centres;
  • Adjustment of the financial aid scale to better target relief for families.

Since 1 January, the basic hourly rate has increased from €6 to €7 per child. The additional charges often levied by private facilities will now be prohibited by law, with the State covering these costs.

Parental assistants will also benefit from increased support to ensure equity between the various types of childcare services.

10,000 new places under construction

One of the reform’s primary goals is to guarantee a childcare place for every child by the end of the decade. More than 10,000 new places are currently under construction. Minister Claude Meisch is confident that this target can be met.
