
Following Georges Mischo’s resignation as Labour and Sport Minister, the government reshuffle will be ratified by the National Council of the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) on Wednesday. Meeting at the Centre Barblé in Strassen, this body of roughly 100 members is expected to give the green light for Marc Spautz to become the next Minister of Labour and for Martine Hansen to take on the role of Minister of Sport.

The CSV parliamentary group will also convene on Wednesday to choose a new group leader. According to RTL information, Laurent Zeimet, MP and deputy mayor of Bettembourg, is standing for the position. Zeimet has sat in the Chamber for the CSV since October 2023, having previously served as an MP between 2014 and 2018 and later as a Councillor of State from 2022 to 2023.
According to our information, party president Luc Frieden has told the parliamentary group that he intends to put himself forward for the position again in the spring.
On Thursday morning, Georges Mischo will be formally thanked at the Grand-Ducal Palace. After that, the two new ministers will be sworn in by Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, followed by the handover of responsibilities in both ministries.
Marc Spautz, who is set to become the new Minister for Labour, expressed confidence on Monday that he can revive social dialogue. Patrick Dury, president of the Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCGG) said on Tuesday that the unions expect a much more constructive approach from the incoming minister.
