Over the past two years, MP Marc Spautz has sharpened his political profile as president of the CSV parliamentary group.

In his first remarks following Prime Minister Luc Frieden’s nomination, Spautz described the role as faction president as a “wonderful job”, while acknowledging that the new position is a new challenge. But, he added: “I await the deliberations made by the different party committees and whether they support the Prime Minister’s proposal.”

It is worth noting that the parliamentary group president has not always toed the line with PM Luc Frieden’s government. However, it appears that the PM did not have to do much convincing to bring Spautz onboard.

“Normally, when you are asked whether you want to join the government, you don’t ask too many questions: you go into the job knowing what is possible and what is not. But I am confident that I will, alongside my other government colleagues, be able to restore social dialogue with the unions.”

Marc Spautz appeared confident that he will be able to implement the measures outlined in the coalition agreement. Regarding potential bills inherited from his predecessor Georges Mischo, he cited three key items currently before parliament: shop hours, Sunday work, and pensions.

According to Spautz, all three draft laws are ready and could be put to a vote in the Chamber as early as next week.
