In contrast, the Grand Duchy’s secondary schools closed for just 34 days. According to the OECD, only New Zealand closed schools for fewer days, leaving Luxembourg well above the global average during the pandemic.

Secondary schools across the world closed in full for an average of 92-101 days. Poland, for example, closed high schools for 190 days.

However, Luxembourg’s focus on partial homeschooling meant that many secondary pupils spent 116 days out of the last year learning at home, which is a higher rate than many other countries.

Students completing their high school studies spent even longer out of in-person education, with pupils experiencing 150 days of disrupted learning over the 18 month period used for reference in the study.
