Preparatory work to dismantle the PN5 level crossing at Dippach-Gare and build a bypass around it began on 20 February 2023 and has now been completed. The actual construction work starts on Tuesday, 7 March 2023.

The main elements of this project include a 2.2 km long bypass road with a 125 m long cut-and-cover, an agricultural overpass, two roundabouts, a junction, a soft mobility footbridge, the construction of bicycle lanes, and the re-establishment of agricultural roads.

The Dippach-Gare bypass is part of a project to double track the Pétange-Luxembourg City railway line and aims to remove the PN5 level crossing on the N13. It should be noted that that this level crossing is used by about 8,000 vehicles per day.

According to the government, “this new project will represent a considerable improvement of the complicated and unpleasant situation for both roads users and residents in Dippach.” The main objectives are to “minimise the dangers associated with the intersection of road and rail traffic and to improve traffic flow and the quality of life of local residents.”

The project is expected to take two and a half years. During construction, the CR103 between Bettange-sur-Mess and Dippach will be closed.

The bypass is a joint project of the Brides and Roads Authority and the Luxembourg National Railway Company (CFL). The total costs amount to €29.8 million.
