In 2019, Luxembourg was ranked the 53rd worst city in the world in terms of traffic, with the average level of urban congestion at 36% (an increase of 3% compared to 2018), according to traffic news site Tomtom in its latest Annual Report.
In comparison, the worst nightmare for motorists is the city of Bengaluru in India with 71% congestion. The best was Greensboro-High Point in the United States, with only 9% congestion.

The worst day for traffic congestion in the capital in 2019 was 11 November at 71%, while the best was Christmas Day, to no one's surprise.
To avoid traffic jams on the morning commute, the best day is Friday, while Tuesdays are the worst. For the evening commute, the best day is Wednesday, and the worst day is Thursday.

To be precise, these are the times to avoid travelling by car:

As expected, the morning and evening rush hours are the worst, between 7am and 9am, and 3pm to 6pm. However, even outside of peak hours, it is difficult to find fluid traffic.
In 2019, commuters lost 163 hours - six days and 19 hours - to traffic in rush hour.
According to Tomtom, this is the equivalent of watching 144 episodes of Games of Thrones, baking 7,838 cookies, or sufficient time to knit seven jumpers!
