
The seven-day incidence rater per 100,000 citizens increased to 425 cases. The R rate did however decrease to 1.16.
Most infections occurred in the age group of children below 14 years. A scenario 4 infection cluster was discovered in the Mersch primary school last week. Five children tested positive in the same class, leaving them in quarantine until 3 December.
More cases have also been reported in primary schools in Koetschette and in Rédange, although exact infection numbers are not known. A total of 881 people tested positive for Covid-19 across all Luxembourgish schools: 644 in primary schools and 237 in secondary schools.
78.6% of people older than 12 have been vaccinated up until now. 32,959 doses were administered last week, the majority of which were booster shots. 3,530 people received their first jab.
Out of 2,699 novel infections, the incidence rate for the unvaccinated is 662.67 per 100,000 citizens, and the one for vaccinated people is less than half as much with 305.48 per 100,000 citizens.
The majority of new infections are still traceable to family circles (36.3%), followed by schools (19%), work (7.4 %), and leisure activities (5%). In every fourth case, the source of the infection could not be determined.
People may get their booster shot without a prior invitation in one of the pop-up vaccination tents or at their GP. However, people will need an invitation to do the same thing in one of the vaccination centres in Luxembourg City, Esch-sur-Alzette, or Ettelbruck.
50 people were hospitalised with Covid-19 last week, of whom 24 were unvaccinated. The number of ICU patients increased from eleven to 16, eight of whom were unvaccinated.
The average age of hospitalised patients increased from 58 to 64. 11 new Covid deaths were reported last week, with the average age of the deceased being 84 years.
Last week, 5,066 people had to isolate (+25%) and 8,760 had to quarantine (+9%).
According to analyses conducted by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology, virus residue in the country’s water purification plants has increased to reach similar levels as in December last year.
