Draft lawCivil servant union calls for amendments to working hours bill

RTL Today
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the General Confederation of the Civil Service (CGFP) called for a number of improvements to the draft law on working time regulations.

Until now, the text indicates that the Minister of Labour will be empowered to authorise deviations from normal working hours in a number of cases. However, the CGFP demands that this be laid down in Grand Ducal regulations.

The article also states that the minister would have the authority to raise the maximum working time from 10 to 12.5 hours for a set or unlimited length of time. The CGFP does not agree with this, stating that it does not want to “sign a blank cheque” to the government and demands that this authority should also be limited to Grand Ducal regulations and subject to an opinion from the Council of State.

According to the CGFP, the government must also ensure that working time regulations are followed by all public and state-run institutions, including the army.
