Paulette Lenert, the former health minister from the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP), is leaving the Chamber of Deputies to join the Council of State. Lenert was officially appointed by the Chamber on Thursday afternoon.

As she was the only candidate for the position, a vote was not necessary.

Although Lenert will remain an MP until she is sworn into the Council of State, she has already briefly reflected on her time in Parliament, describing it as a "highly emotional moment." She stated that she could not help but express her deep gratitude for her time in the Chamber of Deputies. "There have been debates, differences of opinion, but always with mutual respect", she said. Lenert explained that, as with many things, one only truly gets to know an institution by being a part of it, discovering what goes on behind the scenes and seeing the work it involves. "This period has given me a great deal. I thank you all for your support", she concluded.

Lenert was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies in October 2023. Previously, she had been a member of the government for five years. During that time, she was in charge of development cooperation, consumer protection, and health, although she did not stand in the 2018 elections. At the Council of State, she will succeed lawyer Yves Wagener, who resigned after six years in the role.

In all likelihood, Ben Streff, who is next on the LSAP list for the Eastern constituency, will enter the Chamber of Deputies and succeed Lenert as MP.
