The government wants to accommodate people who recently decided to get vaccinated, but are still waiting for their second dose.

Details about the new test centres were presented during a conference held by the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday. Minister Bausch noted: “We are honouring our agreement with social partners as we all believe that vaccines are the solution.”

The test centres can only be used by unvaccinated people who need to comply with the 3G system at work. They will receive 20 vouchers to cover the period during which they are awaiting their second dose. These certified rapid tests can thus be done by residents and cross-border workers alike.

Army Chief of Staff Steve Thull also commented on the new test centres: “We will deploy 200 people, so about a fifth of our capacity. We will also have supply teams operating between the sites throughout.” Thull further underlined that the Army will still be able to cover its usual duties during the testing phase.

Where can you get tested?

Test centres have been set up in Fridhaff, Junglinster, at Luxexpo Sud in Kirchberg, at the Park&Ride Sud in Howald, and at the roundabout parking in Raemerich. They will operate throughout the week.

Colonel Yves Calmes explained the further procedures: “It is mandatory to make an appointment beforehand and people will need a personalised code. People are also required to print the appointment confirmation and bring them to the site. They will then conduct the tests themselves while being supervised by a member of the Army.”

People who test negative will receive a certification, while positive results have to be declared to the contact tracing unit.

In terms of logistics, the test centres can conduct up to 56,000 tests per week. They will operate until the last day of February when the transition phase comes to an end. Minister Bausch underlined that there is no intention to extend the grace period.
