Housing availability and mobility projects took centre stage at Luxembourg City’s monthly “CityBreakfast” press briefing on Wednesday.
Maurice Bauer, a member of the city’s municipal executive board (“Schäfferot”), highlighted ongoing efforts to address housing demand. “As the local authority, we are continuously adding flats to the market and encouraging applicants to join waiting lists,” he said.
Currently, six one-bedroom flats are available – one in Mühlenbach and five in Cloche d’Or. Ranging from 47 to 64 square metres, the units are priced between €245,000 (minimum) and €450,000 (maximum). Bauer described these as “fair prices,” noting that the properties are sold under a 99-year long leasehold agreement.
Prospective buyers must register on the municipality’s website, after which they are placed on a waiting list. The city then evaluates applicants based on internal criteria, including household composition and property suitability, Bauer explained. As of now, 195 people are on the list.
Meanwhile, Mayor Lydie Polfer addressed the stalled construction of a planned bridge connecting Cents and Weimershof. Expressing frustration, she cited a last-minute legal injunction that forced work to stop. The municipality must now await a ruling from the administrative court before proceeding.
