The volume of parcels in Luxembourg increased to more than 19 million in 2024, but sector turnover fell for the first time in 10 years, the ILR has reported.
The Luxembourg postal sector experienced a contrasting year in 2024, with the volume of parcels rising while sector turnover declined for the first time in a decade, according to the Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (ILR).
The ILR's 2024 report, which analysed data from 43 service providers, found that more than 19 million parcels were sent or delivered in total – an increase of over 5% from the previous year. This continued growth was driven primarily by a rise in the number of parcels being sent to Luxembourg from abroad.
Despite the increase in volume, the sector's turnover failed to grow in 2024, breaking a near-ten-year trend of consistent financial growth. The postal sector in Luxembourg employs just over 2,200 people, with more than half of the workforce employed by POST Luxembourg.
