Following discussions exploring the possibility of establishing a new Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch (CHEM) satellite facility at the recently opened GridX complex in Wickrange, project "Spidolsantenn" (in English "hospital satellite") has been unanimously vetoed.

The President of CHEM’s board of directors and mayor of Esch-sur-Alzette, Christian Weis, made the announcement following the conclusion of the directors’ meeting. The board has decided to focus on the development of its three main sites, which include the southernly located hospital, the Dudelange, and the Niederkorn hospitals. This means the feasibility study for the project is now off the table.

CHEM officials will hold a meeting with Luxembourg’s Health Minister, Martine Deprez, to discuss the development of the hospital’s master plan. According to Weis, the possibility of additional satellite facilities is not completely ruled out. For now, however, CHEM will focus solely on its main sites.

In recent years, the Esch-sur-Alzette hospital also examined whether the construction of a satellite facility in Mondercange would be feasible. After a provisional budget was drawn up, the project was deemed unfeasible, effectively putting this project to rest too.
