On Thursday, the Grand Ducal police conducted traffic checks across northern Luxembourg as part of their annual winter road safety campaign.
Among other things, officers checked speed, documents, vehicle condition and lights in an effort to raise awareness on both visibility and technical conditions of vehicles.
Speed checks were conducted on Route d'Ettelbruck and on Rue du Palais in Ingeldorf and Diekirch. Nine drivers were fined as a result, six of whom for mild violations of the speed restrictions, and two lost points off their licence for high speed. Two others were fined for issues with their lights.
Thirty motorists were stopped during checks in the industrial estate of Friedhof. Eight failed to respect a stop sign, 22 did not follow the correct direction of traffic. Police warned that motorists who use the industrial estate as a shortcut are more likely to disturb the flow of traffic.
Seven people received warnings for technical issues with their car in checks on Rue du Pont in Gilsdorf. Six were fined for issues with their headlights, tyres or the warning triangle. In addition, one person was written up for drug use.
